Our Story
We know what you were all thinking when you heard we were getting married: “Finally!!” But before we stand up in front of all of you and say “I do”, let’s recap the crazy journey we’ve been on for the past 8 years.
We met in grade 8 (11 years ago!) and were very different people then. Most notably, Mihai was the shorter of the pair. But nothing important to this story happened for the next 2 years, so let’s skip over to grade 10, when we joined the same robotics team. While everyone else thought it was obvious, it took a whole two years of nerdy teamwork for Mihai to then make a move. Mihai, Cassie, Nick and Liza all went ice skating on a “totally not double date.”
Mihai chickened out of actually asking Cassie on a date until we were both heading home. Running from one bus platform to the other, out of breath and tongue tied, he asked her out, she accepted and one awkward hug later, a date was planned. You’d think that’s enough, but just to be sure, 5 minutes later on seperate buses, Cassie receives a phone call confirming she understood.
“Just wanted to make sure it’s clear we’re going on a date since I was a little tongue-tied and may have been confusing.”
— Mihai
“Yes, don’t worry, Mihai. I understood. I’m really looking forward to our date.”
— Cassie
After a year of successfully navigating grade 12 and a romantic relationship, Mihai decided that things were going a little too smoothly, and the best thing to do with this budding relationship, is a trial by fire. He decided to move 2000km away and study Software Engineering in Melbourne, while Cassie stayed in Brisbane to study Civil Engineering.
Fortunately, Cassie is a patient gal and after 3 years of long distance, a compromise was settled. Mihai would move to Sydney to start his career until Cassie finished her studies. “How is this a compromise?” you may ask. Well, the alternative was a move overseas, most likely somewhere in Europe. So once Cassie finished her studies, she transferred to Sydney so that we could go back to a regular relationship after 4 years of long distance.
Starting our lives together in Sydney was great for us. We both started on our professional careers, settled into a quaint church community at Dulwich Hill and life continued to go by smoothly, with only minor hiccups along the way as Mihai learnt how to salt food and Cassie learnt how to cook without prawns or corn. After a year of living together, we decided that we were ready to consider marriage, started a marriage bible study and Mihai started to plan a proposal.
Shortly after, we had a nice dinner, did some sightseeing of Cassie’s favourite bridge, and we got engaged!
Now time for the wedding!
Thank you for playing a part in our story. We look forward to beginning this new chapter alongside all of you.
